Bigger and better than ever, the Big Apple 2 Big Easy celebrates five years of American mountain motoring mayhem.
Time to book your place on America's only European style Banger Rally!
It's sure to be one blast of a birthday bash.
StreetSafari's premier American event is back for another year of (mild) mayhem, fun, and breaking down. When we say 'It's not an event, it's an attitude', our veterans can certainly agree that a Banger Rally is not your average road trip.
A Banger Rally is an odd creature with an slight left-of-center mentality. Simply put, you either get it or you don't. It's very difficult to explain what makes it so much fun, but SteveK of BABE2006 summed it up almost perfectly for us:
I never expected to have the drive of my life in a $250 Yugo.
His team's Yugo was superb and exemplified the spirit of the event, painted in black rust protection paint (that had obviously been applied about 20 years late), a custom exhaust, and a couple of nuts behind the wheel giving it everything.
BABE is an event you will never see anywhere else as customized cars, ranging from big 70s American sedans, to mid-80s VWs, to the ubiqitous Chevy van, not to mention some Japanese cars that really had seen better days, take to the highway for perhaps their final road trip.
Do old Japanese cars rust? Yes they do, nearly as much as Yugos!
Now is your time to join probably the most unique motoring event in America.
All you have to remember is that the vehicle must cost $500 or less, be road legal and above all SAFE.
The event isn't about driving fast, there are no points for getting in first, last or even on the right day (right, Tim??). It's all about having a bit of fun.
And as the teams of past events will tell, they had a lot of fun!
